What Does The Bible Say About Discipleship?

…Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…

Our Messiah, Jesus, commanded us to go and make disciples. This was not a suggestion but a commandment.  Thus, we must follow in the footsteps of our Messiah.

Our ultimate example of discipleship is our Lord Jesus Christ.  He discipled the 12  and those that remained  turned the world upside down……

As you read the books of 1 & 2 Timothy , you see that the apostle Paul spoke to Timothy as a beloved son. The disciples of old had close relationships with their teachers because they spent years with them learning, growing and maturing in their faith. This is a model for how we should be with our Teacher and Master Jesus.
The end of 1 Kings tells of Elisha’s commissioning to become the next prophet. He said he would “follow” Elijah, much like the call of the disciples of Jesus. Elijah trained and discipled him until his departure into heaven.
